Message	you put a strip on the bearing, put the cap on and torque it. Then, remove cap and see how much the plastigauge "spread" out when it was compressed. I think it has a thickness gauage so you line up how thick it is now, and it tells you the clearance. That's how I understand it, never used it personally.
